On February 17, the Georgian-American School welcomed a very special guest - beloved children's book author Tamar Phkhakadze . The visit was full of excitement. Tamar shared some thrilling news with our third-grade students: a brand-new adventure featuring everyone's favorite character, Marcia , is on the way. The children jumped right in - pitching their own ideas for the story, reading out spells they had invented, asking questions, and presenting the author with a portrait they had drawn just for her. The meeting wrapped up the way it always does - with autographs and photos to remember the day by. The Georgian-American School regularly hosts children's writers and poets, and visits like this one remind us just how much a good book - and the person behind it - can inspire young readers.

Students and teachers came together to make it happen - homemade pastries, a sale during the break, and a good cause at the heart of it all. Organized with the involvement of the Student Council, the charity bake sale was a warm reminder of what this community is made of. All funds raised will be allocated to charitable purposes. The Georgian-American School is proud to support initiatives like this - and even prouder of the students who make them possible. Kindness truly is contagious.

The Georgian-American School is hosting its annual Model United Nations - a three-day event organized by the Student Council with the support of the school administration and GAS MUN Club . MUN gives students a chance to develop diplomatic skills, public speaking, and critical thinking by simulating real UN debates . This year, 39 delegates from the Georgian-American School and the Georgian-American High School are taking part. Students who participated in last year's program - including those who attended a UN conference in New York - are stepping up as group leaders this time around. An organizational meeting took place on February 12, where participants went over the rules and got practical tips for the days ahead. Countries were randomly assigned, and committees and working groups were formed. Three exciting days of debate and diplomacy are just ahead!

What would the father of microbiology think if he could read a letter from a 21st-century student? As part of an integrated school project , our 7th graders took on exactly that challenge - writing a letter to the legendary 17th-century scientist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek , walking him through the remarkable discoveries about the cell that have transformed biology since his time. The project also had a multilingual dimension: each letter was prepared in three languages - Georgian, Russian, and English, weaving together subject-area learning with the development of real communicative skills across languages. Along the way, students sharpened their research and analytical thinking, found their voice as writers, and connected the past to the present in a way that made history feel genuinely alive. Sixth-grade students at the Georgian-American School recently performed skits based on short stories by the American writer O. Henry, as part of their extracurricular English reading program. Literary texts came to life vividly on stage as students delivered engaging and emotionally rich performances. They convincingly portrayed complex characters and their distinct personalities, skillfully conveying the depth, irony, and moral messages that define O. Henry’s work. These performances became a true celebration of creativity, collaboration, and talent. Congratulations to our young actors on their wonderful performances! 👏

Second graders at the Georgian-American School recently completed an integrated STEAM project that united storytelling, visual art, and digital technology across subjects. Students collaborated in groups to write original stories and illustrate them by hand. In STEM class, their drawings were digitized and transformed into animations , which the students then narrated in their own voices. The finished animated fairy tales were presented to parents at a joyful, energetic event that showcased the children's creativity and hard work.

Georgian-American School welcomed representatives from the British University (BU) for a business workshop with 10th and 11th-grade students of American High School Diploma (AP) Program. The session covered business models of well-known companies and introduced the British University's "Shark Tank" project . This initiative supports students in developing business ideas, planning startups, and strengthening entrepreneurial skills. Students are invited to form teams and participate based on their interests. The workshop was led by: Ia Goishvili  – Head of the Department of Continuing Education, British University Mariam Bolkvadze  – Lecturer and Head of the Research Department, British University Students participated in team activities, completed practical assignments, and developed marketing strategies for their companies, which they presented to the group. The Georgian-American School is committed to supporting the comprehensive development of its students. We thank the British University for this valuable collaboration.

To mark World Read Aloud Day , GAS welcomed acclaimed Georgian children's author Vasil Guleuri to meet with 5th-grade students. Mr. Guleuri shared the remarkable story behind his latest book, The Story of the Boy Lost in a Dream - a narrative that originated in his own dream. He read captivating excerpts and also introduced students to a new, innovative pop-up book, Georgia . The session sparked engaging discussion about character creation, the writer's craft, and the literary world. Students asked thoughtful questions, gaining insight into the creative process behind the stories they love. GAS regularly hosts authors and poets to foster a love of reading and strengthen students' connection to literature.

Thanks to an initiative by the Georgian-American School Eco-Club , students recently participated in a valuable first aid training session led by a representative from the Georgian Red Cross Society. Students learned the fundamentals of first aid, proper emergency response procedures, and CPR techniques . After the theoretical portion, Eco-Club members put their new skills into practice using training mannequins. These hands-on training sessions provide students with essential, potentially life-saving competencies they can carry throughout their lives. We are grateful to the Georgian Red Cross Society for sharing their expertise and practical experience with our school community.

As part of Georgian-American School's Citizenship Project , in collaboration with the Student Council , the school welcomed Environmental Education specialist Kristine Belashvili , co-founder of the project "Notice." Ms. Belashvili brings impressive credentials to her work. In 2024, she was named one of the North American Association for Environmental Education's prestigious "30 Under 30 ," recognizing young leaders who make significant contributions to environmental education . The meeting topic was "Our Role in Protecting Urban Biodiversity."   Students engaged in thoughtful discussion about the urban environment and the diverse organisms that inhabit it, examining existing threats and exploring how each individual can contribute to conservation efforts. Participants also gained insight into the critical role urban biodiversity plays in ensuring sustainable development. GAS Speaker Forum continues to bring inspiring voices to our community, with many more engaging and meaningful sessions planned for the future.

The 4th graders at the Georgian-American School recently completed an exciting, integrated project called 'Great Travelers,' culminating in a final presentation. The integrated project ( covering Georgian, Science, History, English, and Art ) included thematic sketches, digital technologies, posters, diary entries, handmade books, and booklets. The young researchers introduced famous travelers and their incredible discoveries. The audience journeyed alongside Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, Roald Amundsen, Ferdinand Magellan, and Amerigo Vespucci.
